WIP Student Writing Into Shape
No matter what course you teach, communication skills are an important part of student learning and development in your field. Deeper learning? More engagement in class? Stronger writing? For the past two decades, student response reports from writing-intensive courses have demonstrated the positive impact writing in the disciplines pedagogy has on a class’s learning environment.
Dr. Lindsey Harding, Director of the Franklin College Writing Intensive Program (WIP), will present a two-hour workshop, “Weaving Writing In: A Writing-Intensive Course Design Boot Camp,” on Wednesday, February 7, from 2 pm to 4 pm at the CTL Mall. This workshop is designed to equip new and established faculty with resources, strategies, and templates for integrating writing into discipline-specific courses. WIP’s goal is to support student writing through courses, events, and programs to help students succeed in writing and help faculty feel confident in their ability to teach writing effectively.
As a faculty member, your time is valuable and limited. Learn how to make the most of it in the classroom while building in opportunities to teach writing as a process and a mode of learning. This workshop will connect you with like-minded faculty members across the disciplines as you get a crash course on the best practices for effectively assigning, assessing, and teaching writing. For faculty in Franklin College, this workshop will ultimately prepare you to submit a course proposal for WIP’s 2018-2019 course roster.
