Register Today! Spring 2024 Writing Retreats

We have multiple writing retreats coming up for the spring semester! They’re available for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members, and are a perfect way to get work done on writing projects. Below is more information on each of the three events.

Parents Leadership Council Undergraduate Writing Retreat

Date: Sunday, April 14

Time: 3:00 – 7:00 pm

Place: MLC Reading Room, third floor

Coordinators: Lindsey Harding, Elizabeth Davis, and Sara Steger

Dinner, snacks, and refreshments will be provided!

Join us for four hours of writing! In addition to the time and space to work, this writing retreat offers one-on-one writing conferences with peer or graduate student consultants.

Bring your writing projects and come ready to write! We’ll provide dinner and plenty of snacks and refreshments so you can focus on your writing.

Graduate Student Writing Retreat

Date: Saturday, April 13

Time: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Place: MLC Reading Room, third floor

Coordinators: Lindsey Harding, Elizabeth Davis, and Sara Steger

Bagels, pizza, snacks, and refreshments will be provided!

Bring your writing projects to the second annual Graduate Student Writing Retreat! Sponsored by the Graduate School, this retreat will give you the time you need to work on journal articles, dissertations, cover letters, and more!

When you arrive at the MLC Reading Room, come on in! After you sign in, you are welcome to sit and work anywhere. You’ll want to bring your own water bottle, and we’ll have plenty of food and other refreshments to keep you comfortable and focused.

All spots in this retreat are currently full. Please email Lindsey Harding ([email protected]) to confirm if you’re registered and planning to attend in order to secure your spot. If you’d like to be put on the waiting list, please contact Dr. Harding.


Faculty Writing Retreat

Date: Tuesday, May 14

Deadline to apply: Thursday, April 18 (capped at 50 with a waitlist)

Time: 8:45am – 4:00 pm

Place: MLC Reading Room, third floor

Parking: The nearest publicly available parting is the Tate Center Parking Deck (rates and more information)

Lunch, snacks, and refreshments will be provided!

Want to celebrate the end of the academic year with a day devoted to writing? Sign up for this year’s faculty writing retreat!

Agenda

8:30–8:45am: Arrive and get settled in the Reading Room. Grab some coffee, a breakfast bar, a piece of fruit, and get ready to work.

8:45–9:00am: We’ll kick things off with a brief welcome and goal-setting session.

9:00am–12:00pm: Time to write!

12:00–12:45pm: Lunch! This will be a chance to gather and mingle with other retreat participants, while enjoying lunch and a break.

12:45–3:45pm: Three more hours to write!

3:45–4:00pm: Finally, we’ll celebrate the day’s productivity together before sending you on your way.

Additionally, we are delighted to offer limited appointments with graduate student writing consultants during the retreat to talk about projects or provide copyediting support. After registration closes, you’ll be invited to sign up for a session with a trained consultant.
