The Department of English operates the UGA Writing Center in Park Hall 66 Monday through Friday, 8 A.M.to 5 P.M. All services are free. We offer one-on-one writing consultations for all students.
Serving students and majors across the campus, the Writing Center welcomes all types of writing, including but not limited to essays, lab reports, CVs/resumes, and theses and dissertations. The Writing Center helps students at any stage of the writing process, focusing on issues of argumentation and style. We also work with faculty and staff to offer workshops and other events supporting writing across campus. The Writing Center does not edit or proofread papers for students – consultations are collaborative and focused on helping students develop their writing skills.
The Writing Center operates at four additional locations:
- Science Writing Help in the Science Library, Room 201 (South Campus Writing Center) – students with writing-for-science classes often seek assistance at this location from a Writing Intensive Program consultant with a background in science writing,
- All-Purpose After Hours Help in the Miller Learning Center, Room 302 – all students, for general, after-hours help
- ENGL 1101, 1102, and 1103 Help in Park Hall 118 – FYC students are encouraged to seek assistance at this location for help with assignments or questions related to Emma and FYC Portfolios,
- All-Purpose Online Help- all students, for general, after-hours help.
Schedules for the Writing Center are posted by the start of the first week of each academic semester. The Writing Center accepts drop-in clients if no students are scheduled for the desired walk-in time, but scheduling an appointment is the most reliable way to meet with a Writing Center consultant.
